Today there are a great many varieties of pears. Gardeners, when choosing, are repelled by winter hardiness, the timing of fruit ripening and other characteristics. The article discusses summer, winter, autumn, late varieties, especially their cultivation and care for them.
Summer
Summer varieties of pears are famous for the good taste of the fruit, the resistance of trees to various diseases. The following popular species are considered summer varieties ...
August dew
The variety was bred by S. P. Yakovlev at the All-Russian Research Institute of Genetics and Selection of Fruit Plants named after I.V. Michurina. The tree reaches a height of up to 3 m. Fruits annually, starting from 4 years of planting in the ground. It is characterized by high productivity - up to 200 kg / ha in the most fruitful age. In the first season, it will be possible to collect about 15 kg of pears from one tree. The variety is resistant to winter, resistant to disease.
The fruits are small, weighing 100-200 g. There is no ribbing on the surface. The peel of the fetus is smooth, with dots, during the ripening period, green or greenish-yellow. The pulp is white, fine-grained, with a delicate texture and sweet and sour aftertaste. The peduncle is curved, long, wide.
Seedlings are planted in autumn (early October) or spring (late April). The fruits begin to ripen in mid-August-September. Plants require special care, which include cultivating the land, watering, cutting, top dressing, and preparing for winter.
Bere Giffard
French early ripe pear variety. The fruits ripen finally July 20-25. The variety is intended for fresh consumption.
Fruits are small, weighing 75-100 g, have the correct pear-shaped shape. Pears have a thin, delicate peel of a greenish tint, subsequently acquiring a greenish-yellow color. On the surface there are light brown dots. The peduncle is sometimes short, often long, with a bell at the upper end. White, delicate, juicy pulp melting in the mouth, tastes sour-sweet.
Variety Bere Giffard is demanding on soils, prefers deep and fertile soil. Fruiting occurs 6-7 years after planting seedlings. At a young age, the yield is small, but then the rate rises significantly. At the age of 12-17 years, about 60-80 centners of pears are collected from 1 ha.
Victoria
Fruits grow medium or large in size, their weight reaches 150-250 g. Sometimes it is possible to collect pears weighing 300 g or more. They have a symmetrical, wide, regular shape. The fruits are smooth, beautiful, with a thin peel and a smooth surface. Rarely, a slight rusting is seen on it.
When picking from a tree, the main color of the fruit is yellowish-green. The pulp is white, juicy, oily, with a good aroma and sweet and sour taste.
This is a table variety intended for fresh consumption. The fruits are removed in mid-late August. Variety Victoria begins to bear fruit from 6-7 years after planting in the soil. Fruiting is annual. The advantage is high yield, which is steadily increasing with age. From 1 adult tree receive up to 200 kg of fruit.
Duchess
The first fruits are set in 5-6 years after planting a seedling. The fruits of the summer pear are medium in size, weigh about 170 g. Each adult tree brings up to 250 kg of fruit, which indicates a high yield of the variety. Fruits are elongated, with a tuberous surface and a thin, yellowish peel. There are small black specks on it. Pears smell pleasant, their pulp is tender, tasty and sweet, delight with a delicate aroma of nutmeg.
The variety has a very ancient history. For the first time, the Duchess pear was noticed in the mid-18th century. The variety was bred from the English county of Berkshire.

Northerner
The fruits of the Severyanka variety grow in different sizes, the weight of most pears does not exceed 85 g, but larger fruits up to 120 g are also found. The pears are conical in shape, the tip is truncated. Technical maturity is determined by the yellow-green hue of the peel. In this case, yellow color is on a smaller part of the surface of the fetus. The stalks are long, usually curved. The flesh is creamy, crispy, juicy, tastes like a young, sweet wine. The aroma is weak.
Trees are preferably planted on loamy or sandy loam soil. Before planting in the soil add a large amount of humus. Landing time is in April, late September-early October, depending on the climatic conditions of the region.
Pear care provides for periodic loosening of soil around the trunk. This contributes to the access of oxygen to the roots. It is advisable to remove weeds immediately, as they draw moisture and nutrients from the soil.
Cathedral
The pear variety was bred by Russian breeders more than 20 years ago. Cathedral - a variety obtained by crossing a seedling 32-67 and a hybrid 72-43. This is a summer variety, but the ripening period varies greatly and depends on weather conditions, the number of sunny warm days during the season. Because the crop is harvested in the first half of August or at the end of the month. But by the autumn, all the fruits finally ripen.
Fruiting occurs 3-4 years after planting a seedling. Productivity is good - on average 35-40 kg of pears are harvested from one tree, about 85-100 c are obtained from 1 ha.
Fruits of the correct form and a little tuberous surface. The size is large, the mass reaches 120-140 g. The fruit has a thin, smooth and shiny peel of a green hue (it can be light yellow when ripe). The pulp is dense, white, tender and fine-grained, a slight oiliness is felt. The aroma is weak. The taste is sweet and sour, juicy.
Autumn
To get a high harvest in the autumn, it is important to choose the right kind of pears. The best described are the varieties described below.
Veles
The variety was bred by crossing pears Forest Beauty and Venus. The second name of the variety is “Daughter of Excellent”. The fruits are sweet, juicy, fleshy, with a pleasant aroma. The peel changes color from greenish-light green in mid-summer to yellow closer to August. On the side where the rays of the sun fall more, a reddish-orange hue is formed.
Fruits are large, weigh up to 200 g. Maturity is determined not only by color, but also by fruit density - if they are hard, they are left for further ripening.
Landing is carried out in the winter or in the fall. In the autumn period, it is recommended to plant seedlings in mid-late September, choosing light areas with protection from strong winds. Ripe fruits are harvested in early September.
Moscow Bere
Variety bred in the Agricultural Academy. Timiryazev. When crossing, Olga was used and several pollinators were involved, including Beloved Klappa, Kashkarnok, Forest Beauty. The tree is characterized by a rounded shape, the shoots are dark. Ripe fruits reach a mass of about 100 g. The shape of the fruit is pear-shaped, asymmetrical, slightly tuberous. The peel is thin, with a yellow tint. The pulp is oily, juicy, snow-white. The taste is sweet and sour, not cloying. Fruits reach maturity in early autumn.
It is recommended to choose loose soil for planting the Bere Moskovskaya variety. The tree prefers sunny, warm areas. The advantages include high winter hardiness and resistance to scab and fruit rot. Begins to bear fruit for 3-4 years. Productivity for a long time remains at a high level.
Red-sided
A high-yielding autumn variety with a table purpose. The trees are strong, reaching a height of more than 4 m. After 5-7 years of harvest, the growth rate gradually decreases. The early maturity of seedlings is medium, fruiting begins 5-7 years after planting a seedling.
The fruits are medium in size, reaching a mass of 135-155 g, less often 180 g. Pears are characterized by a regular classical shape, smooth surface. When harvesting, the peel of the fruit has an emerald hue. When fully ripened, it becomes emerald amber. The white flesh is oily, has a fine-grained texture, a pleasant aroma, a sweet-sour taste with a slight astringency. Harvesting occurs in the second half of September.
The variety requires careful collection of pears, because when ripening, they crumble strongly, and falling on the ground is fraught with a reduction in shelf life.

Planting a seedling is recommended in the spring, less often the procedure is performed in the fall. To begin with, choose a place well-lit by the sun, where the tree will be protected from the winds. Ideally choose a site on a small hill. The fruits ripen in the second half of September. The crop is stored up to one and a half months.
